In-Depth Summary

The episode opens with the Straw Hats standing aboard the Going Merry, still talking about their previous adventures in Rainbow Mist. Before long, however, small black objects begin to fall from the sky. At first they think it is rain, but soon entire chunks of wood start falling and landing in the water. The crew looks up to see that an entire rotted ship is falling, and it smashes into the water. A casket lands on the deck of the ship, and Robin opens it up to examine the corpse inside. She pulls out a skull and notes that there are two holes burrowed into it, which was often done to remove tumors. She remarks that the skull belongs to a man in his thirties, who died of an illness aboard a ship at least two hundred years ago. That ship was up in the sky, and so was wandering around for two hundred years before it fell.

Nami soon notices that something is wrong with her Log Pose. She examines it, and notices the needle keeps trying to point up. Robin says that it is not broken, but that it is pointing to another island, more specifically Sky Island, which the rotten ship fell from. Talk of an island floating in the sky gets Luffy, Usopp, and Chopper all excited, but Nami says that they won't be able to get there. The crew then finds that Luffy is out in the water on a piece of wreckage, and once he is brought back on deck, he holds up what he found - a map of Skypiea, the Sky Island. Nami says that there are many fake maps, crushing the spirits of Luffy, Usopp, and Chopper, but quickly says that Sky Island is real to cheer them up. A decision is then made that Zoro, Sanji, and Luffy will descend to the ocean floor so they can search the rotten ship that fell from the sky.

Using a large cranking device and an air pump, Usopp and Chopper work together and lower Luffy, Sanji, and Zoro into the water, who are wearing barrels. As they are being lowered down, Robin hears some music from a distance, and they turn to see a large ship with a monkey with cymbals as the figurehead. The ship has a very large crew, and they are all singing "Salvage!", with a large monkey-like man standing at the front of the ship. He introduces himself as Masira, the Salvage King, and so he claims the sunken ship as his own, and he sends down his crew to salvage it. However, they are beaten up down below and sent back up, but Masira doesn't put two and two together that it was crew members from the Going Merry. He then unleashes the big monkey from the front of the ship, sending it down, and grabbing a big tube he intends on blowing air into the sunken ship to bring it up.

Below, Sanji, Zoro, and Luffy are searching through the sunken ship, when Masira starts pumping air into it. After a lot of work, the ship begins to float upward, with Sanji, Zoro, and Luffy still inside. They take off their barrel suits now that there is air inside. Masira then bursts into the sunken ship himself, angry that they were the ones who beat up his crewmates. When Luffy says that Masira looks like a monkey, though, Masira is flattered, and so he and Luffy sit down and begin to talk. They strike up a lovely conversation, but before anyone notices a gigantic sea turtle swims up and devours the ship. It then surfaces beside the Going Merry, and the Straw Hats remaining on the Going Merry freak about about this giant beast as the episode draws to a close.
