Movie Short Information

When One Piece Movie 3 was released on DVD in 2002, included with it was a short movie produced by Toei called Dream Soccer King. Toei had done this with Movie 2 previously, including Jango's Dance Carnival with it.

Movie Short Summary

The short begins with the announcer at a soccer stadium declaring that it is time for a penalty shootout at the Grand Line Cup final. Nami and Vivi cheer from the stands as Luffy winds back and uses Gomu Gomu no Shoot to drive the ball right past Coby, who is in net. Buggy, for the other team, separates himself and takes a shot, but just goes wide of the net, giving Luffy's team the 1 - 0 lead. Zoro is up next, who fires the ball past Coby and blows a hole in the net. Hatchi takes the next shot, breezing the ball past Coby. Next is Chopper, who kicks in Heavy Point, causing Coby to cower. However, the ball breaks as Chopper kicks it, much to Coby's relief. On the other side, Jango takes a shot, the ball hitting Coby in the face, and it winds up in the net. Usopp is next up to kick, faking out Coby so that the ball just dribbles into the goal. For the other side, Mr. 2 comes twirling up, getting the ball right past Coby.

With this, the score is tied, so the Villain All Stars call out a back-up player, the commentator himself, Odacchi. He takes a shot that Coby easily catches, so Odacchi runs back to the balcony and declares that Coby made an amazing save. This irritates Buggy, who grabs Odacchi by the neck for messing up the shot. Meanwhile, the final shot taker will be Sanji, whose shot will decide the outcome of the match. He delivers a hard kick to the ball, sending it flying right out of the stadium. Everyone is shocked that he missed, and Buggy declares that it is now sudden death. However, a phone call states that the ball has been spotted flying over the Grand Line, coming in the direction of the stadium. The ball is shown still flying through the air, having circled all the way around the world. It flies overhead and plows right into the goal, and so the referee, Helmeppo, still stunned, declares the Luffy Pirates as the winners. Later, Luffy wakes up on the Going Merry, then sees a soccer ball and runs to kick it. It turns out to be Usopp's behind, and so Luffy ends up kicking Usopp right in the backside, sending Usopp flying into the distance, ending the humorous movie short.
