When humanity and Fishmen split racially, they split psychologically, as well: Where there are some bastardly humans in One Piece, I don't think we're going to see such a jackass as Arlong until Jimbei, his former captain, appears... At least.
Arlong is, it must be said, a ruthless, hopeless, heartless BASTARD of a Nazi Fishman. He perceives himself as above every last human, as superior and far-and-away the true successor to a great legacy. What separates him from those who threw our world into chaos, really?
... Nose? ... Chin? ... Webbed feet!
I digress. Anyway, Arlong is, indeed, ridiculously -- LUDICROUSLY -- strong, easily more than the ten-times strength of a normal human with his hands alone... His nose and jaw are even more spectacular in their make! Combined with his favorite weapon, the Shark-Saw Kiribachi, Arlong is entirely capable of brutalizing almost anyone and everyone EXCEPT... well, I'll leave that to your imaginations. Needless to say, he's a worthy foe for any Stretch Armstrongs that might drop in on him...
Arlong's Past
Little is known about what Arlong did before Cocoyashi was invaded. What is known is that he sailed the Grand Line as Jimbei's adjutant, almost equal in strength to the Fishman who would become one of the seven Shichibukai. When and where we'll see a younger Arlong is unknown, but it actually is very possible that we'll see his past at some point.
