Yasopp is the father of Usopp and a pirate under the great "Red-Haired" Shanks. Like his son he's a sure-shot, though he prefers a pistol to Usopp's slingshot-types. Luffy takes a few tens of chapters to remember this guy, but seeing his son proclaim his pride as a pirate's son prompted the gears to turn. What else? Yasopp was married to Banquina, and went to sea when Usopp was a youth. He's good with a pistol. Yeah, that's about it.
Yasopp's Past
In the greatest age of piracy in known history, who's to say what calls a man to the Jolly Roger? Greed? Infamy? Excitement? For Yasopp none of those appealed to him, but the simple desire to sail as a pirate drew him to his present life. When and where he hooked up with a pirate like Shanks can be debated, but no one knows.
