Buggy tells Luffy of how he knew Shanks, who was a fellow apprentice pirate. After a fight with another pirate crew, Buggy found a map to an undersea treasure. One of the spoils was a Devil Fruit, which Buggy planned to sell for a fortune (but he accidentally ate it thanks to Shanks). After his story, he catches Nami in the act of stealing his treasure and goes after her.
