Stage 1: Memoryless Islands (記憶にない島)
|
A New Adventure!?
At the first area, you meet Foxy. He's back to harass Luffy, but he has no clue who Foxy is anymore. Porche appears once Foxy felt insulted from Luffy's words. Just when the crew of three are feeling some confusion again, Bon Kurei appears! He's going to help you get started.
At the character selection screen, Luffy is in grey meaning he's automatically chosen for this battle. A "1" on his icon means that he's the character that you're going to start with. Select lets you look at your button assigned moves and to change them if needed. As more characters are selected, the total number of HP builds up, and so the health bar itself is shared between all the characters. If a second participating character is constantly being damaged, you're losing your supply of HP as well. In the future battles, a number above the word select indicates how many characters are allowed to participate. Luffy and Bon Kurei are the only ones who are able to participate in this tutorial battle. To start the battle, select the red icon at the bottom of the screen. During battle, hitting start will give you two options. The top will resume the battle and the bottom will restart it, from the character selection screen.

Shortly after meeting Foxy, Bon Kurei quickly gets you ready for combat. In this first battle stage, he teaches you the basics of fighting. Within a few seconds in battle, he'll tell you about using the directional pad (+) to move, the A button (A) to Punch, and B button (B) to kick. If you press A and B together (AB) you'll jump.
Combos
Bon Kurei also touches on combos. For Luffy at the current moment, you can only Punch, Kick, and Jump. Fortunately, because of the way Luffy has his moves set up, you can link (A) Punch and (B) Kick together, performing a quicker attack, therefore more damage. This is useful since some moves such as the Pistol take at least 3 seconds to execute. By that time your enemy would have already moved away or attacked you in your vulnerable state. All combos require a not-so-hard timing sense. For this battle stage, try a punch, then hit the B button after executing it to perform a nice quick combo. You'll get the hang of it after a while, and you should, because the use of combos is very crucial for the rest of the game.
Combos can even go from (A) -> (B) -> (AB) -> (A) -> (B) ... etc. depending which moves can be linked to each other. This above example would be an infinite chain provided that you keep in time and that you don't get attacked by something or somebody.
As a reminder, not all moves will be compatible with each other, so in the future, pick a good set of moves which you can use effectively.
Healing Items
Once all of that is out of the way, Bon Kurei drops four boxes on top of your platform. Crates have 120 HP and barrels have 60 HP.
Here are the kinds of items you'll be introduced to.
Tangerine (みかん) - Heals 60 HP
Meat (肉) - Heals 120 HP
Red Potion (赤い薬) - Heals 200 HP and restores status
Blue Potion (青い薬) - Heals 400 HP and restores status
Always remember that in practically every boss battle, crates and boxes around the area are holding healing items for you.
After learning about all the healing items available, you and Bon Kurei jump into another area where you get to try out your moves on some enemies.
Fight!
Three pirates in blue uniforms drop onto the stage. These guys won't actually chase you once you're in their area of sight but will attempt to attack you if you're in their attacking range. These blue pirates only have 30 HP each, so a combo with your punch and kick will deal the 30 damage you need to take them out in one attempt. If you see them beginning to attack, you can safely move out of the way in time or interrupt them, preventing the attack.
Stage Clear!
Bon Kurei is happy for your success! Luffy still doesn't really know what's going on, since he's just being told what to do. Despite your victory, Foxy decides to fight you himself.

Like in the previous battle, only Luffy and Bon Kurei can participate, with you as Luffy to start with.
With multiple characters, you can switch control between them using the L or R button. The other character(s), if near an enemy, will assume battle position while you control some other character. A character with a "..." bubble above his/her head is a nonresponsive character and won't be moving.
Before beginning the real battle stage, Bon Kurei will tell you about restarting battles using the start button. I mentioned about this earlier.
Un, deux, trois!!! The battle begins, and pirates in yellow and blue, as well as Foxy drops down to the stage.
Yellow shirt pirates have a mere 20 HP, but they have a ranged attack. If you're far away for them to get you, they'll pull out a gun and shoot. If you're right beside them, they'll pull out a knife to try and stab you. Either way any of these small league pirates are easy to beat. They just get a little harder when they're in large groups.
And a useful note: Bullets don't affect Luffy!
Defeat all of the pirates and Foxy will jump out and disappear. Don't bother trying to hurt Foxy at this time.
Bon Kurei will tell you that a character with a sword icon above him/her will fight on their own. He then tells you to press (A) on the lever in the right side of the room. It will create a staircase.
Just for convenience in the future, if you run into nonresponsive character as if you're trying to push them, an "OK" pops up and he'll follow you. A good way to gather characters together, if need be.
Go up the staircase and read the signpost to reveal a message from Bon Kurei. A blue chest appears nearby. These chests usually indicate the end of a stage.
Stage Clear!
Spoils
At the end of many stages, you will be rewarded with pieces to be used in order to regain the characters' memories. That way, they can re-learn their abilities and the memories they have forgotten.
Spoils
Meat on the Bone

Temporary Names
Foxy flees and Luffy couldn't be any more happier.
Luffy: Ossan!
Bon Kurei: Who are you calling an "ossan"!! Stop jo~~king around!!!
Since they were in the same topic, Bon Kurei figures that each person should be given a name.
Bon Kurei: You are Straw-chan...
Bon Kurei: You are Marimo-chan...
Bon Kurei: You are Dancer-chan...
Zoro: Did you say... Marimo...!?
Luffy: Daahaahaahaa!
Luffy: Marimo completely suits you~
Zoro: Why you...
A Ship to Venture With
Anyways...! You need a Ship to be able to go from island to island, so take note of the exclamation marks that appear at places. They mean that there's something new to check out, whether it be a new person to talk to, a new battle; it's all a surprise. Once you get Going Merry Go, Bon Kurei tells you about visiting ports and using them as memory fragments to regain some of the memories. The battle icon on the shadow of a figure indicates a battle stage.
He'll also go in depth about the status screen, the red "!" in the log book indicating that a memory can be recovered in the Memory Fragment Collection (記憶のカケラコレクション), the red "!" appearing beside each character indicating who is able to remember, and the process of remembering.
It's basically all just matching the pieces into a puzzle, some of them being extremely easy, while others are hard to determine. Hints as to what piece fits are at the bottom of the screen in Japanese. Otherwise you have to go by their shape. The cards with a lightbulb are regular memories that will increase maximum HP, while the dual swords are the abilities that can be used in combat. Well, Luffy thinks that all of this is easy... for the most part, it is.
The next place you visit is Tonjit's House. Pick up the Fresh Eggs and the Great Stick, then speak to Tonjit. This opens a new path to another memoryless island.
Together Again
The one on the left is Usopp, on the right is Sanji, and below Usopp is Robin. See all three of them and Bon Kurei speaks out in joy.
Bon Kurei: Found you!
Bon Kurei: Prince-chan...
Bon Kurei: Nose-chan...
Bon Kurei: Haa!
Bon Kurei: You're Executive Vice President!?
Bon Kurei: All three of you are Straw-chan's comrades, co-m-rades!
Sanji: Why the hell am I that marimo-head's comrade!
Zoro: What did you say...
Nami: You guys...!
Nami: Why are you suddenly fighting with the white-shirted guy?
And the conversation goes on. Sanji's willing to be Nami's friend, of course. You can see Usopp beating him over because of that. Robin understands that their memories are missing... Also, just a note, Mugi is straw and marimo is a kind of algae. Zoro's hair looks like algae, doesn't it?
Upon the end of the conversation, all three islands have exclamation marks. Pick up the shower on the island you're currently on, the binoculars in the next island, and the slingshot and refrigerator in the first island.
10%! Regain Some Memories
Go into the Table of Contents (hitting Start and going into the book icon). At 10% completion, Luffy learns a technique, Gomu Gomu no Bakaazu!? which I think is supposed to be Bazooka, but it looks like Luffy's still struggling to remember right. Well, at the very least it can initially cause 20 damage and it's pretty quick to execute.
Just for the curious, the big text the flies across the screen when Luffy learned the technique says:
Memory Awakened
New Technique Acquired!!
Raising physical stats (recovered memory)...
Memory Awakened
Physical Strength and Hit Points UP
Bakaazu!? is a (B) button move. Like Kick, it links with Punch. Try it out and see what you like. You're not done yet though, go into the Memory Fragment Collection and check out all the red exclamation marks. Remember that the pen and paper icon takes you to the save screen.
I call these "cards" and number them from left to right, but there aren't really official names for them. Just sort of your memory collection, like a logbook. Watch for these tables so you know what to match.
Here is the format:

Bon Kurei realizes that there's one member missing. Racoon-chan. Hmm.
With a great start (bumping you up to 12% completion), you can now customize your characters and try out some new moves. Watch for the red arrows so you know which can be used for combos! Actually, Bon Kurei will tell you this...
Head to the fourth island! We are, in fact, missing Chopper. There's a battle icon on Chopper's sihlouette. When you've got your moves set up, get ready for a battle. It looks like Porche is still chasing Chopper around, so you've got to put a stop to it. Bon Kurei tells you about the HP between all of your characters... I talked about this at the beginning of the entire stage.
Battle Stage: VS Porche

Bon Kurei: 120
Just for some advice... if you're up against a lady, DO NOT PICK SANJI. You saw him pre-battle. If for some reason you do, press start, choose the bottom choice and start over.
Defeat Porche!
Barrels around the area have plenty of healing items. Porche will leave behind two yellow pirates and 1 red one for you to fight with. Red shirt pirates will grab onto you if you get caught and then inflict steady damage on you while you're immobolized. They also pull out a sword to attack with. Each of them have 20 HP each. When you're finished, progress up and you'll fight Porche herself with two blues and 1 yellow. Remember that the blue's have 30 HP. Porche has 100 HP and attacks with her long range baton and shoots out three roses. Her baton returns back to her so make sure that you don't get hit by it when you're setting up combos on her.
General Battle Tactics
For your future boss battles, these are good to know. Speed is definitely a factor, so don't be choosing Zoro against a speedy opponent. As explained before, don't choose Sanji to fight a one-on-one battle with a girl. Ration the healing items around the area so you'll always have something to heal you with. Probably the most important thing in a one-on-one battle is timing. While an enemy performs an attack, most of the time he's pretty invulnerable. For ones with long range like Porche, their long range makes them wide open for an attack. While she's waiting for her baton to return to her, anytime in between is the time to strike. Just make sure you get her from the side or behind and not head on. It's not so bad right now, but once you get to the tougher bosses, you have to know when it's your chance to attack and where you should be in order to inflict any kind of damage. *coughMr.1cough*
Rescue Chopper!
Upon defeating Porche, you still have to reach Chopper. Go through the wavy maze defeating the pirates on the way and get to Chopper, clearing the stage.

Once those are finished, Bon Kurei will tell you about Eternal Poses and how they take you to the next stage. He warns you about missing out on fragments by progressing too fast, and that'll lead to missing techniques.
I advise you to change Sanji's (B) button move Epaule (エパール) to the newly acquired Quasi Queue (カジクー). Remember to update your moves as soon as you get them. Be sure that they're linkable too, and also, if you don't like it, you can change it back. Sanji's a master at combos, and all you need is an (AB) technique for him to complete a powerful fighter.
Minatomo-san
You'll see that something weird appeared on the map. Go to the new area in order to pass it. You'll never fight these Sea Kings so don't worry about a battle. Here you pick up a Tosakano King. I think this is the one that ate Higuma the Bear...
Two exclamation marks appeared, so go check them out. On the island where you found Sanji, Usopp, and Robin is Minatomo-san! You've probably see him before a few times. For those who can't remember, he's the little carpenter guy that fixed the door in Drum and told Sanji about the cooking competition in the Loguetown filler.
Likewise, he'll be popping in in almost every stage getting you to complete a puzzle. There is a switch, box, panel, and a locked door. The number of boxes will vary from stage to stage. The white switch resets the positions of the boxes. Push all the boxes onto the black panels to lower the locked door that guards the treasure chest.
Minatomo Stage
There's a little glitch in the game, I believe. Chopper's initial (AB) technique Escape (脱出) can actually make him go through these boxes. It instantly makes all these puzzles completable without much thinking and planning. This kinda defeats the purpose of it being a puzzle, but... like I said, a glitch. I don't know if it'll do that to your game but it does it to mine.
This puzzle doesn't have any difficulty. Push the box up twice and to the right three times.

These Islands Looks Like...
Can you tell now? Yes, the Memoryless Islands are actually the islands of Long Ring Long Land! Go clockwise around and head to the guidepost. When asked if you want to leave, be sure to select the right option (いいえ = No) for now. The left option (はい = Yes) allows you to leave the island, but there's still one more thing to do. As soon as you regain control again, you'll spot another exclamation mark at Tonjit's House. Go to it and... it's AoKiji!?
She doesn't know him but something inside tells her that he's not someone she should be near...
To the Twin Capes!
Head back to the Post and finally leave the island. 15% completion!
