Shonen Jump's Grand Battle - Support Characters
In the game, support characters are readily available to do your bidding. Depending on the character, you may summon someone to be a hindrance to the opponent by adding "half" a player to your side temporarily.
Summoning a support character requires 1 food charge to be filled. They can be summoned as many times as possible, provided that you have at least 1 complete food charge filled. A character's food charge has up to 3 levels.
All the playable characters have the same button formation to call upon support:
L1 + □ → □ (Playstation 2 version)
L + B → B (Gamecube version)
When checking the command screen when START is pressed, support characters are listed under the first heading, Support Attack.
In the case of the Usopp Pirates' Challenge, support characters are used in the bet. If a battle is lost, one of the support characters of the 3 characters you chose for participation will be nabbed. If won, Usopp will let you choose from a random list. They can be used for the rest of the matches for that three-round game. This is the only time you'd see Zolo summoning Tashigi to fight for him!
Monkey D. Luffy
Kung Fu Jugons
Luffy calls for two Jugons, creatures that think of whoever beats them in a fight (Luffy beat some up in Alabasta, for some reason that I... forgot). They bow as they meet with their opponents, then delivers an uppercut.
Roronoa Zolo
Johnny
A bounty hunter that once traveled with Zolo, he hunts pirates with his "brother," Yosaku. He swings his blade at his opponent as he chases them.
Yosaku
Another bounty hunter that used to travel with Zolo, Yosaku was saved by the Straw Hat crew from scurvy. Instead of swinging his blade like his "brother," he leaps into the air and stabs his opponent.
Nami the Navigator
Genzo
The headman of Coco Village, he's always known to have a pinwheel on his hat. He was almost killed by Arlong (just for owning a weapon!) but was saved by Usopp. He slashes Nami's opponent with a sword.
Usopp
Pepper
One of Usopp's Pirates. He fights with a toy sword, and slashes whoever his captain is fighting as he falls from the sky.
Carrot
Another one of Usopp's pirate crew. He charges at his enemey and whacks them with a frying pan.
Onion
You'd never guess, but he's in Usopp's crew as well! He throws salt and pepper shakers, causing his target to become confused when hit.
Sanji
Zeff
The head chef of Baratie and a former pirate, Zeff once ate his own leg so Sanji could survive off of what little food they had. During battle, he leaps into the air and slams down on his opponent.
Captain Kuro
Django
Captain of the Black Cat crew (replacing Kuro) and a hypnotist that sometimes hypnotizes himself! His range is somewhat low, but his opponent is immediately stunned if his by his hypnosis.
Siam
One of the Meowban Brothers, the ship guards. He runs at his enemy and slashes them with his claws.
Butchie
The other Meowban Brother. He jumps into the air and body slams his opponent.
Don Krieg
Ghin
The battle commander of Krieg's armada, he thinks very highly of his captain (but is incredibly deadly himself). He'll chase down foes with his two metal tonfas.
Pearl
Born in the wild and shields his entire body, that's how Pearl is. Whenever he feels like he's in danger, he generates heat from friction and throws flaming pearls at whoever he feels threatened by.
Buggy the Clown
Richie & Mohji
It's never a circus without a lion tamer! Mohji rides his pet lion, who slashes others with his claws.
Cabaji
The second mate of Buggy's crew as well as the acrobat. He rides on a unicycle and launches himself into the air, stabbing whoever he falls on.
Saw-Tooth Arlong
Choo
A kisser-fish Fishman and one of Arlong's three top officers. He doesn't chase after whoever he's fighting, but does shoot water with the force of a bullet from out of his mouth!
Hatchi
An octopus Fishman. He fights with six swords, and wildly slashes the enemy!
Kuroobi
A manta-ray Fishman and a 40th degree master of Fishman Karate. He leaps into the air, then body-slams his opponent.
Chaser
Tashigi
A marine that bares a striking resemblance to Zolo's deceased childhood friend, Kuina. She chases her opponent and strikes them with her sword, but occasionally trips and falls down.
Tony Tony Chopper
Dr. Kureha
139 years young (don't call her old. Luffy and Sanji can tell you that!), she taught Chopper everything he knows about medicine. After taking a swig of her drink, she hurls mace balls and knives at anyone who's fighting her apprentice.
Ms. Sunday
Hana Hana Fruit Powers
Whoever eats the Hana Hana fruit gains the ability to sprout arms from anywhere (even her opponents!). In this game, she can sprout four of them from the ground that shoot her enemies (not to say that's the only display of her powers in this game!).
Mr. 3
Most notable for having his hair in the shape of the number three, he is a top agent in Baroque Works (and eater of the Wax Wax Fruit, which lets him create wax). After sipping his cup of tea, his hair lights up like a candle as he chases his opponent, stabbing them with a sword of wax.
Miss April Fools Day
Mr. 3's partner, who hypnotises simple-minded creatures (Luffy being one) with her color therapy. Whatever color she hits her enemy with depends on what happens to them (Blue -> Slows down ; Red -> Weakens ; Grey -> Reverses controls)
Red-Haired Shanks
Lucky Roux
A member of Shanks' crew who is always holding meat on a bone. He jumps into the air and lands on his captain's foe.
Ben Beckman
Shanks' first mate. Although he has a rifle, he prefers beating people up with it rather than shooting.
Yasopp
The marksman for Shanks' crew and Usopp's father. He shoots down his opponent with... well... a gun!
Mihawk
Greatest Impact
It seems that Mihawk doesn't really need a support character! Using his sword, he creates a purple wave that follows his opponent.
Mr. 2 Bon Clay
Mr. 4
Although a pretty slow person, he's a very strong Baroque Works agent. He stands still, so he's very easy to avoid. Watch out though, because anyone who walks near him will be struck with a massive baseball bat, causing massive damage.
Miss Groundhog's Day
Mr. 4's partner, who seems to have enough energy for the both of them. She tranforms into a mole-human form (she did eat a Devil Fruit that lets her do that after all!) and slashes opponents with her claws.
Lassoo
Just how does an inanimate object eat a Devil Fruit? They seemed to have found a way with this gun, who's now a gun-dog! The poor little guy seems to have a cold, and sneezes exploding baseballs at whoever is in battle against him!
Mr. 0 Crocodile
Mr. 1
One of the highest-ranking agents in Baroque Works who has the ability to turn his body into metal, making him even tougher. He chases opponents down and slashes them with his body.
Miss New Year's Eve
Mr. 1's partner, and eater of a Devil Fruit that lets her grow thorns all over her body! In battle, she jumps into the sky and rolls up into a thorn-covered ball, then crashes into the ground.
